Bragadrina smashing Nick's figurines on the ground and grinding them with her shoe. | Nick is livid with Bragadrina for smashing the figurines of his parents. |
Here's what we do know about Nick.. He was an only child born into an aristocratic family. Unbelievably Rich. Most likely betrothed from birth. A catch for every girl within reach. Probably good looking and even if he wasn't, I would imagine his money was. He was kind hearted and Caring. He was hard working, Dedicated, Honest, and he went the extra mile. He was known as "the wonder (Miracle) worker".
He was most famous for coming to the aid of the falsely accused. He was orphaned at some time in his teens, moved in with his uncle and Abbot, of whom no one is really sure what his name was. A popular belief is that it was Nicolas also.
He became a priest and was ordained as Bishop of Myra in the run down province Diocese of Palmyra in a most peculiar way. He did a few miracles, supposedly slapped Arius at the Counsel of Nicaea for blasphemy then yelled at him, and got defrocked for it.
He was reinstated later. He rescued slaves, was tortured for his faith, saved mariners lost at sea, loved the ocean, and showed up in Technicolor in Constantine's dream. The golden miracle dowry gifts happened. Details are diverse. The Brine tub scenario of 3 pickled youths in a brine tub left for dead happened, and he revived them.
Nick went to bat for unjustly imprisoned officers, and bailed them out. Turned a few tables. Crashed pagan ritual parties, literally. He was a Priest with an attitude! There has never been found any of his wealth, journals of him or his family of any kind. How come? Why? He was intelligent, wealthy, educated and spiritually minded. Well his Journals and family records were most likely stolen or destroyed somehow. As for his wealth, he gave it all away and I have a reason to believe it was over a period of time. Not all at once as we've been led to believe. He was a wise man who I'm sure knew the value of good stewardship. He must've realized that money is power and when used for good reasons, has positive influence. He was very well known for buying slaves and then setting them free. As for the flying Reindeer, that was a different time and place and not at all the same lad.
There are supposed names of his parents but nothing absolute is certain. There was never any record of his Grand Parents so I gave him a really cool Grandma and Grandpa. Every one has a best friend growing up so I gave him some pals. Sorry dude, I don't buy the tale that Nick refused to suckle the midwifes breast when he was born because his mother was without milk and held up 2 pope style fingers reprimanding the midwife for sexual impurity at his birth, ...............uhhhhh I don't think so. That sort of thing would have made me freak and look for an exorcist! Nor do I buy the tall tale that he was perfect, sinless and well...basically immaculate from birth, like Jesus. In Nov. 2000 this story started out as a waking dream fueled my obsession to know more about Nick even to now 3-13-06. By the end of 2001, it evolved from being a journal into a non-published book / script. It became an audio book and now a novel published by Author House Publishing from 2005. I am currently upgrading the paperback with more illustrations; story content and the audio books continue to improve in sound quality, music and effects.
I am currently writing a continuation story and a Saint Biography loaded with concert pics from the 80's to the time of release, which will be roughly in a year. Thank you for taking the time and interest to consider checking out and enjoy this fantasy-story-drama based on the legend of Saint Bishop Nicolas of Myra. Please bear in mind that this is not intended to be a totally historic record of his life. There is a healthy amount of creative license, as you will discover.
There is a great deal of fiction mixed with fact. Sort of like Camelot. We all know that King Arthur existed as did some of the other characters, but we have no factual evidence of what really took place between them personally, nor do we know what the content of their conversations were.
The story is narrated by a Grandfatherly old man who is said to be from the U.K. with a hint of Scottish, Irish and British flavor to his personality.
It is based in ancient Turkey but since Grandpa, who sounds a tad bit like "Sean Connery meets Monty Python with a bit'o the Irish mixed in there, the Grandkids drift off to sleep with sugarplums dancing in their heads and dream about the characters with Grandpa's voice in their minds. Modern lingo is spoken because Grandpa loves to embellish and is up on modern lingo. This is where you get to use your imagination. So with all of that said, dream on and enjoy the journey. Thanx for listening and using your imagination. Sincerely, Howie Kaemerer, H.J.K.

(Thank you to Tevi Kea for the help on the evil priest picture.)
Picture #1. At day break, a stealthy Ling Chin Wong and his troupe get in position on the hillside to attack from above as Nick and the boys (picture #2) also prepare to unleash holy hell sneaking up from below on the Evil Priest and his army of thugs, in The Cove scene. You may recognize some of Nicks support group. Top left, John Perrine, John Mahan, Me, Gene McClendon, Rich Lynch. Below left to right, Me with beard and mustache as Crusty Mac Scratchy, Dennis Bedwell as Captain Artimis, Jason Sheppard as a monk. Nick is a computer image created by Anne Simic, Rudy Ebarra, and me. The Asian warrior in the background is also a computer image by Rudy Ebarra. The Monk on the far right is portrayed by Ed Cunningham, depicting Nick's best friend Barius in this picture but Barius' voice in the audio book was mine. The team of artists and graphics people who helped me painstakingly and meticulously create the Nick and the Boys picture are, Anne Simic, Jonni Brown, Jeff Ortiz, Dave Dickson, Chris Loch, Mike Fergus, Raena Lonnae, Rudy and Parris Ebarra and Tim Lamberson.
Nicolas was imprisoned for his faith and illegal release of valuable slaves, kicking over pagan gods and trashing pagan ceremonies and so forth. This set off the local hedonists and political leaders and they had him jailed until Emperor Diocletian stepped down from power and Emperor Constantine took over. Constantine Had a dream about Nicolas and Jesus Christ prompting him to see that Nick is released from prison. He should be listed in Guinness Book of World Records for the longest living person in a Roman governed dungeon thanks to Merciful Guards such as this one sneaking him food and water.
Here's what one reader stated about Nicolas...
Hi! I found your book to be innovative and entertaining. I like digging into St Nick's past, as I have mentioned before. The use of modern popular language in the dialog makes me 'see' the charactors in an animated series. I still hope for you that it takes off and you're able to make a film of it. Congratulations on the new Saint album you'll be making and I look forward to it. I hope you're doing well. Teressa
PS (What an illustrator! Have you had art school background?)
